Some people are more prone to becoming car sick than others. And whether you are on a short drive to a friend’s house, or a long road trip, car sickness makes the whole experience awful. When some people drive, it makes them feel less car sick, however, some people still feel car sick if they are the driver. If you get car sick as a driver, we would recommend you don’t drive. If you are dealing with nausea at the wheel, it could cause an accident. If you are the type of person who’s car sickness goes away at the wheel, then drive! Keep in mind that longer trips on the road can bring up car sickness, so please stop at gas stations and rest stops whenever you can.   1. Find Stability
    Try putting your hand against a flat surface to fight your nausea. In a car, you could try the windows, front dashboard, or a seat in front of you. This will help your body recognize that its moving and relieve some of your symptoms.
  2. Eat Ginger
    Ginger is known to prevent motion sickness, so be sure to stock up on food or drinks will ginger flavoring. You can try ginger ale or ginger candies and it should help quickly. If you don’t have ginger, mint gum or something with lemon might be your next best bet. All of these will help ease digestion and make you feel better on your long car ride.
  3. Take Deep Breaths
    When you begin to feel a little sick, try breathing in your nose and out your mouth. Take deep, slow breaths. This will not only calm your mind by causing you to focus on something else, but it will also calm some of your muscles that may be tense.
  4. Try to Sleep
    If you go for a car ride when you are tired, it can intensify your nausea. Make sure you get a good nights sleep before you hit the road. If that isn’t an option, try to sleep during the car ride and hopefully you will wake up when it is over.
  5. Eat Something
    Some people think avoiding food before long car rides will help them avoid getting carsick, but that is not true! If you want to avoid feeling carsick, make sure you have a full stomach. Try to eat bland foods because greasy foods may make you feel worse.
  6. Keep Your Head Straight
    Look straight ahead and keep your eyes fixed on something. Don’t bend your head down like you are looking at a book or your phone because this could make your symptoms worse. Invest in a neck pillow if you want to sleep because it will keep your head up and straight.
  7. Try a Neti-Pot
    If your sinuses are blocked, that could be contributing to your car sickness. We recommend trying a Neti-Pot to help combat your nausea or dizziness.
  8. Take Some Medications
    Sometimes if you are feeling car sick and nothing is working for you, your best bet would be to take some anti-nausea medicine. If you prefer to go the natural route, you can try ginger pills. Otherwise, there are plenty of over the counter options. However, if you are extremely prone to motion sickness, talk to your doctor and they might be able to prescribe something that might work better for you.
  9. Take Breaks
    If you are going on a long car ride, it is best to pull over and take breaks every once and awhile. This will be a good opportunity to stretch and walk around. Being on solid land and getting some fresh air will definitely help your motion sickness. If you aren’t able to take breaks, try rolling down the window a little or opening the sunroof to get some fresh air!
