If you are planning a road trip in the near future, having all these emergency items in your car is absolutely necessary. It's bad enough when your car breaks down on the side of the road, but it's even worse if you are in an unfamiliar area far away from home. 1. First Aid Kit
When it comes to a first aid kit, you have two options! You can either make one yourself, or you can buy a pre-made one at the store. No matter what you decide to do, you want to make sure it has band aids, ibuprofen, antibacterial wipes, feminine products, etc. If you have any other medical conditions like asthma or diabetes, make sure you include an inhaler or glucose tablets so that you can be prepared for anything. We want you to stay safe on the road and a big part of safety is being prepared for the worst.
  2. Flashlights
You want to have flashlights and extra batteries in your car in case something happens at night. The flashlight will be helpful so that you can see everything. If you need to take a peek under the hood, you will have a flashlight that you can shine on various parts to check and see what the problem is.
  3. Blankets
Blankets and other warm pieces of clothing are good to store in your car in case you get stuck in your car for long periods without a working car heater. If you live in a colder part of the country, this is even more important. It could possibly save your life in an emergency.
  4. Water Bottle and Snacks
Store non-perishable snack in your car like granola bars, crackers, nuts, dried fruit, etc. This could make an unexpected issue less stressful or could save your life if you become stranded for a really long time. Water is also very important for emergencies because you don’t want to become dehydrated. It will also be helpful if you are on the go and forget to grab water or snacks on your way out of the house!
  5. Spare Tire
Spare tires are very important in case one of your tires becomes flat. If you have a car, we recommend that you learn how to install a spare tire in case of emergencies. If you find yourself needing to install your spare tire but you don’t have the knowledge or skills to do it yourself, give Wrench a call!
  6. Basic Tool Kit
In your basic tool kit, you want to include things like screwdrivers, pliers, duct tape, antifreeze, brake fluid, etc. These tools could be essential if you find yourself in an easy fix situation.
  7. Jumper Cables
Jumper cables might be helpful to you, or they could be used to help a fellow driver in need. It is not uncommon to need a jump start every once and awhile, especially if you leave lights on in your car. So keep them in your trunk and you will be ready for the road!
  8. Emergency Flares
Emergency flares are very important if your car breaks down in a busy area or a blind corner. You want to set them up so other drivers know that there is an issue coming up and this could prevent an accident.
  9. Cell Phone and  Phone Charger
You want to always have your cell phone and charger with you whenever you go for a ride in your car. You could use your phone to get one of our mobile mechanics to come help you out, to navigate to a gas station, and much more! We recommend even having a portable charger with you so you can keep your phone fully charged, even if your car power isn’t working.
  10. Maps
If all else fails and you find yourself without a cell phone, you want to have backup maps! Make sure you have a map of your home state and anywhere else you plan on driving to! Someday you might be extremely thankful for being so prepared.

There is no such thing as being over prepared! You never know when issues may arise so it is best to be prepared all the time.
