Why Work In The Automotive Industry?

Rodney has been working in the automotive industry for the past 8 years and loves what he does.

"I wanted a career that I would be passionate about, and considering that I’ve always taken things apart to figure out how it worked, becoming a mechanic was an easy choice! To me, turning wrenches is more like a hobby, not just a job!" - Rodney M.

With his curiosity for cars, he attended school at Houston Community College for Automotive Technology. His time in school grew his desire to become a mechanic, and soon enough, he graduated!

Now he is an ASE-certified technician working with Wrench!

In his 8 years being an automotive technician, he has learned a lot about cars and himself. One of the most important lessons he learned from the job was knowing he can't fix every single car.

Knowing when to take a step back and look at other solutions is an important trait for a mechanic. As much as mechanics want to be able to fix every car, some problems just won't budge.

So when we asked Rodney what his most memorable service was so far, this is what he said:

"I did work on a 1999 GMC suburban, and they gave me a run for my money! First, I found out that there was no spark, even after the customer replaced the spark plugs and wires. Since there was no spark coming from the ignition coil, I went ahead and replaced it along with the ignition control module with the distributor and rotor cap. I even checked the fuel pressure and found it to be within specifications. Finally, I replaced the crankshaft position sensor, still getting a no-start diagnosis. This was a condition that was out of my reach, and I could not repair the vehicle. I returned all of the parts except for the crank sensor so that the customer didn’t have to pay for service. I take pride in my work, so I feel some type away if I cannot get your car to start. This was just a mere bump in the road in the automotive field, but it left me with the lesson that I can’t fix every car no matter how hard I try!" - Rodney M.

Being a mechanic can be challenging, but it can also be very rewarding! Rodney believes going to work is like opening a brand new box of chocolates. You know you will be eating a piece of chocolate, but the flavors and textures are always a mystery. Every day on the job is a whole new problem thrown at you, but that's what makes it fun!

Working With Wrench

In his 8 years in the automotive industry, he has spent one month with Wrench. His favorite part about being a mobile mechanic at Wrench is working with our customers.

"I love getting the satisfaction of guaranteeing quality service and personally ensuring that every customer I work with gets above and beyond repair and maintenance services."

Finally, if Rodney could give every Wrench customer one piece of advice, it would be to get to know your vehicle.

"Maintaining your car's health is like being in a relationship. If you don’t know anything about your car, then I advise you to start!" - Rodney M.
